How SERVPRO Addresses Water Damage Inside of Your Home

Discovering water damage inside of your home can be overwhelming. However, the worst thing that you can do for your home is to wait. Allowing the water damage to sit unchecked can create conditions that are ideal for future complications to develop, such new damage to other areas of the house. When you find water damage inside your home, the best thing you can do is to call for help immediately.

Jose Medrano, Production Manager of a local SERVPRO franchise, explains just how badly water damage can impact your home while on the site of a remediation. In the case of this home, a wax ring failure "caused the water to seep through the tile flooring, the hardwood floor, and downstairs to the dining room/ living room below." It does not take long for water damage to begin impacting other parts of your home. Water wants to follow gravity, so it can travel along the flooring and the walls to get to the lower levels of your home.

Medrano explains that in the lower level of the home, SERVPRO had "taken the precaution to cover the unaffected areas, the flooring, the stairways, [and] the banisters, in order to protect those [during] the removal of the affected materials." SERVPRO always tries to minimize any further damage that could happen inside your home while remediating. A common way for us to do this is to set up protective barriers with plastic sheeting to section off areas of damage from the rest of the home.

Medrano points out that it is essential to ensure that the structure of the home is dry as well so that no future complications occur. He comments that his team "removed the drywall in order to dry the structure and disinfect [it.] We have exposed all the framing [and then] sanitized all the framing." Now that the structure of the home has been dried and adequately sanitized, to prevent microbial growth, SERVPRO can approve for the rebuilding process to happen.
